Barre cords are awful when you first learn them. Try rotating your finger slightly so you're mainly using the side of it, if they haven't taught you that already. It makes it a little less painful, and easier to force the strings down.

The position isn't the problem anymore; it's switching from major to minor (if I've got my facts right, major barre chords are on the E string and minor one are on the A).

plus you just have to build up the callus.

a capo will make your life easier for that.

i think creep is all bar chords. maybe you could learn that.
